‘This is England’ film screening

On Thursday 20th March, the RBU is proud to present a Film screening of ‘This is England’, followed by a discussion on ‘how we can oppose the National Front’.

Vegan food and popcorn (for donation) will also be served..- Join us from 7pm.

TIE_PosterThis Is England is a 2006 British drama film written and directed by Shane Meadows. The story centres on young skinheads in England in 1983. The film illustrates how their subculture, which has its roots in 1960s West Indian culture, especially skasoul, and reggae music,[4][5] became adopted by white nationalists, which led to divisions within the skinhead scene. The film’s title is a direct reference to a scene where the character Combo explainshis nationalist views using the phrase “this is England” during his speech.

‘Relaunch’ in motion…General Meeting tonight (and lots more!)

A building was squatted – it became a social centre and was named after an umbrella.

Now, after two years, we who live in it want to invite more people to be a part of the activities of the social centre, and call-out for help to go forward with events, gigs, info-nights, film showings and more, which will benefit people in East Cardiff and beyond, and provide a lasting injection of ideas of radical social change in an area where poverty is creating destitution and government cuts are biting further.

To further our aims we will have monthly meetings, work-days, and as much as we can possibly fit into this space.

We hope to see you at the first of these meetings, tonight, at 7pm, and please check the Calendar for more events already organised for this month as we welcome the coming of the spring!

Love, peas, rage, and don’t forget Squeebs!

Happy two and a half years (nearly!) x

Adamsdown Spring…

Hey everyone.

We've been through a lot in the last 2 years, 3 months, but Adamsdown's
Social Centre is still running, and we welcome new people getting
involved: PLEASE COME ALONG if you have any ideas for the space or would
like to use the space to run an event of your own...Revolution-ReLOVEutionThere haven’t been many people showing up to the social centre meetings,
so we’ve decided to hold more promoted ones once a month. They will be on
the first Tuesday of every month.

Therefore the next general meeting will be on Tuesday 4th March at 7pm.

And around this time we plan to hold a workshop to get another step
forward in renewable energy generation - with the making of our very own
pedal powered generator! So we can then always keep the juice in the
batteries! :-D

We are also starting weekly cleaning and maintenance sessions, hoping to
improve the condition of the building itself and make it more suitable and
inviting as a venue. If you want to help out or get to know the crew, come
along on Saturday between 12noon and 4pm.

It is also possible to contact the crew by emailing us on the usual email
address - redandblackumbrella[at]riseup.net
- or through the Cardiff Squatters Network phone on 07596 821 368 – we'll
be checking these regularly and ideas suggested can be raised
by someone on your behalf at the next meeting if you can’t make it
yourself.

Meetings, as ever, at the Red and Black Umbrella, 57-58 Clifton Street,
Cardiff CF24 1LS – hope to see you there.

More from 325

From 325 magazine–

I will wander the world alone carrying my hatred and scorn everywhere.
Alone in struggle.
Alone in victory and in defeat.
Bruno Filippi

Souls who are grieving for this world, this is why I call you to gather together.
The flag is already waving.
It is black; it stands for mourning. Forward then, wild Promethei. The cry of vengeance is music sweet and dear.
Today it is necessary to kill, to destroy … tomorrow we will be daisies …
Forward, Federation of Sorrow!
Bruno Filippi

Nothing delicate can survive here.
Nothing fine.
Only the brutal.
Seagulls brash as boys.
The rest sit thin-skinned as frogs,
trying to throw themselves like the sun into the formidable sea.

“So, farewell for now, my friend, until the next round of magic and mayhem against civilisation.”
