A belated report of the rumpoles/prison/0NE squat eviction in Cardiff UK

By 07:00 on wednesday 14th august, the roof of the squat had been occupied by a lone squatter who played hide and seek with CCTV in the area for over an hour to pass the time. At approximately 08:30 United Welsh representative Barry James along with police, bailiffs, members of the fire crime unit and workers from Celtic Horizons (approx 20-30 total bodies) arrived and began attacking the frame of a back door. At this point the lone squatter climbed down to seek support from locals (no phone calls could be made). By 09:10 the fuckers had gained access and begun applying sitex to several windows, no support had arrived in time.

Why Barry?! Why!?! :(

ACAB take over Canton Police Station

copshopPress release from Antagonistic Collective Against Boredom (ACAB):

In the early hours of Sunday morning, we entered and occupied Canton Police Station. We did not ask for permission, as it is our legal right to do so. Given Cardiff Police abandoned the building over a year ago, kindly leaving twelve different open windows for us to choose our entrance from, permission seemed a bit of a formality anyway.

We squat because we believe that corporations and landlords have no right to hold property empty for their own profit while people less lucky are homeless, that people should not have to sell their freedom to employers or jump through government hoops to put a roof over their heads, and that the police should not be allowed to act as hired muscle for the rich and powerful, consistently ignoring, abusing and outright breaking the law to maintain the interests of the ruling classes.

We are squatting here to show our disgust at the way the police use their power to oppress others for their own ends. Since the murder of Lynette White shone a light on the corruption of Cardiff Police, the people of Cardiff have seen for themselves that the police don’t protect the public only themselves: while innocent people lost years of their lives in prison, the three cops who set them up – to protect the real murderer – walked free, pardoned by the IPCC in a move that made it clear just who the police care about. We squat here to show Cardiff Police not everyone is afraid.

To have a home is a basic right, not a commodity to be exploited as a resource by landlords for money and by the state to keep us in our place. Taking the building we act as individuals in a community we have made for ourselves, showing our defiance of the culture of fear the police maintain, and our will to resist oppression and support ourselves and on another.

A Co-operative Meditation Group…

…is advertising for friends to join in an equality based meditation practice.
Equality for the compassion and openness to contribute with and for each other, an openness that is only possible without hierarchy.

There will be a meeting to begin where experience and practice for that meditation are discussed and agreed on by method of reaching a consensus.
There will be meditation followed by a chat about what happened during the meditation if people want to talk about it and a meeting about any business relevant to the group.

Open Social Centre Meeting-25th June 2013. Call out for teachers of Workshops, Lessons, Skillshares, Community groups etc!

The Social Centre is available for use for workshops of all varieties for anyone to put on (within reason – no fascists/cops etc).

Thanks to generous, mostly anonymous donations and fund-raisers we now have solar power that can be used for laptops/lighting and audio devices so please don’t hesitate to use the resources we have available.
Open social centre meetings will start taking place again on the 25th June 2013, 7pm.
The meetings will be great opportunity for people interested in having something put on to meet up and discuss times to run workshops- which we can of course promote/facilitate and host.

Residents can be on hand to help with anything you need doing for the workshops, from making posters or updating the website to bringing out refreshments or just being present to help host.
We want to share this free-space with others for workshops, skill shares, activities, community groups, lessons, talks, info nights, games and more so if you want to see something put on please ask and we’ll make it happen.

If you are a teacher or want to try your hand at teaching something we can set up a regular or one-off class for you.

Love and Rage, E xx

Solidarity With Ubica Arrestees

http://en.squat.net/wp-content/uploads/en/2013/05/ubica_0.jpgAutonomous spaces are rare and (sometimes) beautiful things that are often overlooked by the majority of society. People can walk past the same space a hundred times without batting an eyelid, while continuing on their drone like life. Safe in the knowledge that those “hippies”, “scroungers” and “layabouts” are out of the way, safe in the knowledge that their idea of “normality” is not challenged.

However, on the night of May 24th in Utrecht there was no way of ignoring any longer, no way of hiding the truth of the conflict that rages on a daily basis around the world. What escalated into an onslaught requiring: riot pigs, mounted pigs, and even flying pigs, was resisted using burning barricades, fireworks and an arsenal of paintbombs in defence of the squat Ubica which had stood for 21 years as a home to beautiful people and ideas.

A full report can be found here.

To the detainees,

We at the Red and Black Umbrella wish to express our unconditional solidarity with all 11 detainees who were taken captive after bravely defending the squat Ubica .

Your actions (while not needing any) were more than justified. In the face of ever widening austerity and repression across prison fortress europe, these spaces are valuable parts of the community providing space for creativity to blossom and the individual to realise themselves. When taken we lose a home/meeting place/hideout/workshop or any number of other things that the mind can create of a space.

Your actions were not in vain. We all know that it is only a matter of time once the eviction process begins, that the loss of the building is inevitable. But our strength is not only in keeping the bricks and mortar, it is in the home we make of it in our hearts. It is not only in the ferocity with which we defend it but in the shared pain that we feel when a space is lost. These ideas and emotions transcend language, borders, class and fuel fires in the hearts of comrades the world over.

Fuck the law! Squat the world!

Kraken gaat door! Mae sgwotio’n parhau! Squatting coninues!

Thatcher’s Dead But…

… although she was truly one of the most despicable, Thatcher’s death should not distract us from the fact that there’s still plenty more slimy parasites left alive (see left,) or the wave of oppression that the current Tory government is employing on many of societies most vulnerable.

-FUCK PIP-     -FUCK ATOS-

Thanks to everyone who came round to our party on Monday, it was good to see everyone enjoying the good news. Perhaps we could do it again some time?

Most will be aware of the proposed party in trafalgar square on Saturday but for those unable to attend, fear not. 325 has published a list of proposed “party” locations happening across the country (and world) on that day.
